Shanklin Hall is a Black-owned, woman-owned multidisciplinary social club at the intersection of community, creativity, and wellness. We didn't come here to build something new. We came home.

Where it started

A music festival.
Five people. One idea.

Shanklin Hall began in 2019, at a music festival, with five of us asking a simple question: why isn't there a place like this at home? A place where art, food, music, and the kind of gathering that feels like belonging all exist under one roof — in Washington, DC, the city that made us.

Five years of pop-ups followed. Dinners in unexpected spaces. Galleries that came and went. Events that left people asking where they could find this again. The answer, eventually, was 2325 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan — our permanent home.

We're proud to be one of the few Black-owned, woman-owned cultural venues in the District — owner-operated, locally rooted, and built with care by five native Washingtonians who believe the city's creative community deserves a room of its own.

2325 18th Street NW.

Before Shanklin Hall, this address was home to Columbia Station, one of Washington, DC's most beloved jazz venues. For over two decades, Columbia Station was a gathering place for musicians, artists, and community, earning its place in the cultural fabric of Adams Morgan and the broader DC jazz scene.

The building also carries deeper historical roots. 2325 18th Street NW served as the headquarters of the DC chapter of the Black Panther Party, a site of organizing, community service, and resistance during one of the most significant political movements in American history.

We didn't choose this address by accident. Shanklin Hall is the continuation of something that was already here, a space where Black culture, creativity, and community have always found a home.
